The Lasallian Community Education Services was established in Colombo in 1980 by Dr. Emmanuel Nicholas. The main focus of the Lasallian Community Education Services at that time was to provide health and nutritional programs to mothers and young children living in shanty encampments.
Today, the focus of the Lasallian Community Education Services has expanded to include vocational education training to disadvantaged youth living in shanty encampment communities. These youth have the opportunity to receive training in:
- Electrical Wiring
- Plumbing
- Dressmaking
- Embroidery
- Beauty
- Basic Computer Skills
Graduates from these training programs have the opportunity to continue to study and test for higher levels of training for their chosen skill or find obtain jobs that will help provide for their families and community.
